On Tuesday 26th July 2016, ADF in partnership with NRSP Chiniot carried out an Awareness Raising Workshop on Early Child Marriage at the Pride Inn Hotel, Chiniot City, District Punjab.

150 participants including policemen, marriage registrars, clerics, religious leaders, community heads and parents of out of school children attended the programme.

Mr Ghulam Rasool, Regional General Manager and his team at NRSP helped plan and coordinate the entire programme. ADF team members attending this event included: Mr Ehsan Ali Khan, Ms Shahnila Naz and Mr Abdul Basit.

Mr Muhammad Tauqeer Ahmed, Senior Credit Officer, NRSP Field Office Chiniot; Advocate Tahir Khan Baloch; Medical Officer, Dr Muhammad Saleem M.S City Hospital Chiniot; Mr Naseer Ullah Khan, Deputy Superintendent Police Chiniot; Miss Tahira Rescue Officer at Rescue 1122 and Mr Abdul Sammad, Islamic Scholar all gave presentations at the workshop.

The Training Workshop commenced with the recitation of The Holy Quran by Imam Masjid. The Attendance Sheet and Baseline Form were circulated amongst the participants for completion. Mr Ehsan Ali Khan started the session by welcoming the participants, guests and guests of honour. Ms Shahnila Naz presented a welcome note and introduction of ADF. The objective and aims of the workshop were also presented with the introduction.

The objectives of the session included:

1. How to increase awareness on The Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929
2. How to increase School Enrolment for out of school children
3. How to increase the number of reported cases of Early Child Marriages
4. How to advocate for better response and recognition from the government
5. How to ensure more strict regulations on this crime.
